Two approaches to backup

Take the classic enterprise path with Veeam. Or assemble your own backup stack on a dedicated server and pay primarily for infrastructure rather than a packaged service. Both options work — the difference is convenience, control, and cost.

PATH A

Veeam Backup as a Service

The standard enterprise approach for companies that need predictable data protection without assembling infrastructure themselves. Veeam creates consistent copies of virtual and physical workloads, supports application-aware processing for business systems, and enables fast service recovery.

One strong capability is Instant Recovery: a virtual machine can be started directly from a backup file without waiting for a full restore, reducing downtime during an incident.

  • Backup infrastructure placed in Irix Tier IV, separate from production
  • Encryption and access control on transfer and storage
  • Usable as primary backup or as an off-site second layer
PATH B

Self-Managed Backup on a Dedicated Server

If the goal is to reduce cost and retain more control, backup can be deployed independently on a dedicated server. Possible configurations:

  • HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 12LFF — large 3.5" drive count for high-volume data
  • HPE Synergy 480/660 or BL460 with LUN attachment on external storage
  • HPE ProLiant BL460 Gen10 with local drives, e.g. 2 × 3.84 TB — most affordable

Install your own backup software and supporting tools for routing and VPN, e.g. MikroTik CHR. Backup solutions used here include Veeam, Bacula/Bareos, Proxmox Backup Server, and other commercial or open-source systems. We have no access to client data or installed software — control over the system and data remains with you.

HOW TO CHOOSE

Familiar format, or cost and control

If you need a familiar enterprise format with minimal assembly effort — Veeam is the logical path. If cost, control, and configuration flexibility matter more — allocate a dedicated server for backup and build the stack yourself. We will help select the scheme based on data volume, copy frequency, and budget.
